Professor Paul Light Surveys Public Confidence in Charitable Organizations
Dr. Paul Light, a Professor of Public Service at NYU Wagner, recently completed a national survey measuring public confidence in charitable organizations, detecting a downward trajectory.
The survey results are included in the April 3, 2008 edition of The Chronicle of Philanthropy, along with an article summarizing the findings. According to the poll, 64 percent of Americans now have a "great deal" or a "fair amount" of faith in charities, down from 69 percent in the 2006 version of the survey, and 64 percent in 2005.
Professor Light tells The Chronicle that charities should be alarmed at their inability to win over much of the public to the quality of their efforts.
